Abstract
The purpose of the study was to assess the factors influencing the food preferences of clients of food vendors, a case at AAMUSTED canteen. This study adopted a cross sectional study design. Survey research approach was adopted. From the target population, a sample of fifty (50) was selected for the study using simple random method. Questionnaire was used to gather primary data. With regard to the electronic analysis, the SPSS will be applied. The study shows that respondents take breakfast before coming to school in the morning. 31, representing 62% responded yes to the question whilst 19 of the respondents representing 38% responded with a no. This implies that averagely, most students take breakfast in the morning before coming to school. Also the researcher wanted to find out from the respondents the rate at which they take breakfasts in the morning. From the responses it was revealed that, 24(48%) takes breakfast every morning, 17 (34%) responded that they don't take break at all. 4 of the respondents representing 8% responded they take breakfast 2 to 3 times within a week, 3 (6%) responded that they take breakfast once a week whilst 2 (4%) responded that rarely do they take breakfast in the morning. From the analysis the researcher wanted to find out the snack preferences of the respondents during the day. Out of the 50 respondents that responded to the questionnaire, 19 representing 38% indicated they prefer Ice creams, 18 representing 36% responded they prefer soft drinks, 5 representing 10% responded they prefer fruits, 4 of the respondents 8%, This implies that averagely, most of the respondents prefers ice creams as their snacks during the day. It is recommended that Nutritional Education should be intensified across all age groups in schools, hospitals, work places and institutions so that individuals make informed healthy food choice.
