Abstract
The project "Implementation of an Electronic Voter Data Transmission System within the
Electoral Commission of Ghana: A Case Study of the Yendi Constituency" aimed to
streamline the voting process while also improving transparency and speed of results
transmission. The Rapid Prototyping model served as the study's guiding software
development life cycle (SDLC) technique, with Bootstrap, JavaScript, and PHP serving
as programming languages for creating responsive and dynamic web apps. Visual Studio
Code was used as the primary text editor for both backend and frontend coding as part of
the methodical approach to development. The project files were placed into a specific
folder for easy access and administration. Furthermore, the database for the application
was developed utilizing the XAMPP localhost server, and PHP connection code was
implemented for seamless data and system communication. Extensive testing was
performed utilizing the sophisticated XAMPP tool, integrating numerous servers,
including MySQL, Apache, FileZila, Mercury, and Apache Tomcat servers, to assure the
application's resilience and stability. This enabled the application's features to be
meticulously validated at various phases of development, assuring high-quality outcomes.
The system requirements for the project were carefully evaluated, including hardware
specs such as processing power, memory, and backup storage, as well as software needs
such as operating system platforms and browser compatibility. Extensive user interface
design focused on giving police and administrators with a straightforward and
aesthetically pleasing experience while utilizing the system.
The deployment procedure was fully tested throughout the 2020 election cycle in the
Yendi constituency, assessing the system's data transfer capabilities and gathering useful
input from participants. The results demonstrated successful performance in a real-world
context, revealing possible areas for development.
The electoral Commission of Ghana's introduction of an electronic voter data transfer
system shows its potential to transform election procedures while assuring efficiency and
openness. The report emphasizes the need of adopting emerging technologies such as
blockchain in order to address difficulties and enhance the voting system in the future.
