Transmission and storage of digital medical images for telemedicine facilitates healthcare delivery. However, this gives rise to security concerns such as confidentiality integrity and reliability. In this paper, an efficient chaotic encryption scheme is proposed for gray scale medical images using Arnold cat map and pseudorandomly enhanced chaotic map. The scheme achieves secure encryption by Arnold transformation followed by pixel value modification with chaotic key sequence. The robustness of the scheme is measured by various metrics such as histogram analysis, key sensitivity and information entropy. Furthermore, we compare the efficiency of the pseudorandomly enhanced logistic map with the logistic map. The initial experimental results show that the scheme promises stronger resistance against diverse forms of common attacks.
