Abstract
The study was to evaluate the readiness of the hotel industry's contribution towards environmental sustainability in Ghana. The study specifically aimed to evaluate the readiness of the hotel industries to environmentally sustainable practices, evaluate the channels for greenhouse practices adaption in the hotel industry in Ghana, and asses the challenges in instituting measures for greenhouse practices on customer satisfaction in the hotels and tourism industry in Ghana. The study was a descriptive design with a quantitative method of data collection. The employed convenience sampling technique was to sample sixty respondents from four selected hotels in the Greater Accra metropolis. The quantitative data was analysed using SPSS tools like frequency and percentage tables. The finding of the study indicated that almost all (93.3%) of the respondents affirmed that their hotel uses energy-saving bulbs, and a majority (81.7%) of the respondents agreed that their hotel embraced processes and practices which reduce solid waste. A majority (80.0%) of the respondents agreed that the lack of tools (technology) by hotels to implement greenhouse practices was a major challenge. The study concluded that organization restrictions, lack of tools, and cost were most often cited as challenges in instituting greenhouse practices. The study recommends that the government and NGOs entities should offer incentives and rewards to hotels that adapt green practices.
