Abstract
The purpose of the study was to look into the management strategies used by junior high school
headteachers in Ghana's Upper East Region's Builsa South District. The study aimed to find out
headteachers' management practices, identify obstacles they encounter in managing junior high
schools, and analyse strategies for enhancing headteachers' management practices in junior high
schools located in the Builsa South District. Descriptive survey design using quantitative approach
was adopted. All junior high school headteachers and assistant headteachers and teachers were the
target population. The 46 headteachers and assistant headteachers and the 23 teachers made up the
accessible population. The schools and each of the 46 headteachers and assistant headteachers were
chosen through the use of census sampling. A closed-ended questionnaire was used by the
researcher. Cronbach Alpha was found to be 0.86 in the reliability test. Frequencies and percentages
were used in the analysis of the data. The results of the study showed that headteachers fostered a
supportive environment in which educators were encouraged to reach their full potential in order to
impart knowledge to students and, when needed, assign tasks to other educators. Managing junior
high schools also presented difficulties due to a lack of finance, inadequate educational facilities,
and an unsustainable workload. Enhancing junior high school headteachers administration can be
achieved through offering rewards such as gift and citation, giving frequent feedback, and showing
respect for each individual employee. To address the numerous issues facing headteachers in Builsa
South District, it is recommended that the Ghana Education Service and the Builsa South District
Directorate of Education should collaborate to equip headteachers of junior high school with good
management practices and skills
