Abstract
In today’s global and competitive environment, the general consensus is that organizations that capitalize on diversity are likely to perform better than organizations without workforce diversity. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of workforce diversity on employee performance in ECG. This research employed descriptive research design. The study area was ECG Head Office at Agogo in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal, and it focused on Management and Administrative staff, Supervisors and Technicians. A sample of 142 respondents was selected using Stratified Sampling technique. Primary data were collected by the researcher from respondents through questionnaires and interviews while secondary data were obtained through reviewing of various documents. The findings of the study revealed that workforce diversity can influence employee performance. This was established due to effect that the overall workforce diversity can have on employee performance. Despite this, the study also highlighted several challenges that hinder organization from benefiting from overall presence of diversified workforce. These challenges include: Lack of human resource expertise; Lack of policy; Lack of Common understanding and Tendency by some employees to think that they know better than others. In order for ECG to benefit from diversified workforce, this study recommended for provision of education on the meanings and aim of diversity workforce, recruitment of new expertise, enhancing management commitment, and formulation of policy on diversity management in the organization.
